Robert Floyd is the owner and instructor behind First Shot Training. He is a Certified NRA Basic Pistol Instructor with more than 25 years of teaching and training experience. He is the person responsible for the accuracy of the educational material published on this site.

Where the safety background comes from

Robert earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and his introduction to shooting fundamentals came through the Boy Scouts. That is where a lot of Texans first meet the ideas this site keeps coming back to. Treat every firearm as loaded. Know what is beyond your target. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Store firearms so that only the right person can reach them. Those habits do not change from a summer camp range to a Texas License to Carry qualification.

Twenty-five years of hunting added the other half of it. Hunting is where safe muzzle discipline stops being a rule you recite. It becomes something you do without thinking, in the dark, in bad weather, around other people. It is also where patience with a nervous beginner comes from, because everyone was a beginner once.

These are written from official sources, mainly the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas statutes. Every source is linked so you can check it yourself. Robert reviews these before publication and his name appears on them as reviewer.

First Shot Training and Faith First Firearms

First Shot Training is the firearms education brand of Faith First Firearms LLC, a licensed Texas FFL. First Shot Training focuses on firearms education and helping students get started with the Online Texas LTC class. Faith First Firearms handles firearm transfers, first time buyer support, and shop services.

The Online Texas LTC class itself is delivered by Texas Carry Academy, the outside provider. Texas Carry Academy handles registration, payment, course access, and delivery. The in-person range instruction and proficiency demonstration are completed with a qualified Texas LTC instructor. First Shot Training does neither. Its role is education, and pointing you in the right direction.
